Name: Yui
Canon: Angel Beats
Canon Point: Goodbye Days
Age: None given. Going with 14.
History: Here
Personality:
Out of the entirety of the afterlife war front, Yui is probably, without a doubt, the most hyperactive and energetic member. Outwardly she’s cheerful and lives her afterlife in a happy go lucky manner. Most days she simply does whatever it is that she wants to do. She’s not athletic per say, but she’s incredibly active. Yui is constantly on the move. It’s rare for her to sit still or remain quiet for any prolonged amount of time.
This is probably due to her inability to move during her life when she was living. Paralyzed from the neck down she couldn’t move at all. Her pastimes included watching television and admiring the different sports and music groups that she watched. She could only dream of having the ability to do even a fraction of what they could do.
Although she hardly, if ever, outside of special circumstances, lets people see how very bitter she is toward God and the hand she’s been dealt, she hates the unfairness of it and life. All of her dreams had been impossible because of the accident. God is cruel and unfair and she just can’t simply pass on when none of her dreams had been possible from the very start of her life. The feelings more than qualify her for fitting in with the rest of the afterlife war front.
Now that she can move, Yui makes the absolute most of her ability to do so. Although she’s not at the same level as Iwasawa, Yui, since entering into the afterlife, has managed to learn how to play the guitar and at a pretty impressive level, considering she’s just an amateur to the instrument and self taught. This makes her incredibly hard working and determined, even if it’s not always portrayed or shown on screen. At the same time, she’s a complete fangirl who stalks and obsesses over the people or things she loves. Because all she could do while paralyzed was admire others, it translates easily into the afterlife with her. She has only respect and admiration for the individuals who can do the things she dreamed of being able to accomplish. Most of her adoration is directed toward the all-girls band Girls Dead Monster (GirlsDeMo for short), which she later gets to join and fulfill one of her dreams after Iwasawa’s disappearance.
Next, to her main comrades in the afterlife war front, Yui lacks combative skills, despite possessing a rather strong kick. Even Yuri remarks that she’s not an effective threat against ‘Angel’, and would serve mostly as a distraction. Her skills are much more suited to performing on stage while giving the others time. Ultimately, this is probably a good thing as she’s absolutely terrified of fighting against Angel, even when she has the desire to try and help. More often than not she hides behind her comrades and only makes threats from safety.
Surprisingly, Yui’s fairly aggressive, and not so surprisingly, kind of a moron. She acts first before thinking and lacks a filter at times. She constantly initiates arguments and fights with Hinata, but not really in any sort of vindictive or hateful manner. She likes attempting to compete with him and push button- a lot like a boy with a crush but in the reverse. In fact, after sacrificing him in a battle against ‘Angel’ she mourns his death in a teary-starry eyed moment. It’s noted though that she wished to join his team first for the baseball tournament earlier in the series, and tends to gravitate toward where he might be found. She’s fairly comfortable being herself around him.
Hinata isn’t the only one she verbally has bouts with. She good-naturedly trash talks her colleagues and can act ridiculously childish at times, following whatever whim hits her at the moment. Most of her urges stem from things she’s seen on T.V. and wanted to copy or do before. She’s easily distracted, however, and once her attention has moved on she’ll disappear quickly enough.
Although Yui often feels guilt that she had to have been a huge burden for her mother due to her condition when she was living, and the unfairness of it all, she remains overall upbeat and positive. She’s easily excited and enjoys throwing herself at whatever she is doing at the time at full force. Overall she’s cheerful, a bit clumsy, and happy to simply be able to do the things she was never able to in the past.
Abilities: None.... beyond her learned ability to play the guitar and sing. She has a pretty killer kick and was able to learn the german suplex after countless hours of practice, but they were all things she had to spend time and dedication to in order to learn. She doesn’t have any extraordinary special abilities outside of maybe being loud and having bad timing occasionally.
Strengths: cheerful, optimistic, determined, talented, energetic
Weaknesses: scaredy-cat, easily duped, clumsy, bitter, low-self esteem
God/Shinki: Shinki!
Why?: In canon she is actually dead! In the series she exists in a high school like setting with other individuals who have died after experiencing unfair lives too. They declare war on god and are determined not to disappear or pass on. . . although eventually, she does pass on (again) so that's two deaths maybe?
Cause Of Death: It isn't said what her original death was in canon. We know that she spent her whole life in bed and wheelchair-bound after an accident that left her body completely paralyzed from the neck down. I'm going to say that she had a weakened body due to her medical complications and as a result of that she got sick as her body broke down and she eventually died in a hospital bed.
That aside... the characters constantly 'died' in the after life. They'd just come back to life immediately after. It doesn't actually show Yui die though in the series, unlike most of her other battlefront companions. She does crash at one point but we don't know if she actually died on that occasion or was knocked out.
She DOES eventually pass on, however. Yui has a bucket list of things she wants to do and accomplish. One of the many things she had wanted in life, however, was to grow up and get married. But because she had been paralyzed from the neck down she had found it useless and an impossibility to even consider the fact that anyone would want her. Even in the afterlife, this lingers heavily with her-- that she would simply be a burden and no one would ever even consider wanting to spend their life with her. One of her companions, Hinata, however, tells her that he would marry her. Even if she was paralyzed and couldn't move-- that to him it didn't matter. That somehow they would/would have met and he would have married her and that the Yui he had met in that world wasn't a lie. This finally gives her the peace she had needed... being accepted and loved and cared for despite the limitations she had experienced in life, and she disappears from the world, officially moving on (to presumably reincarnate).
Vessel: She turns into her guitar!
Name Location: Back upper right shoulder
Power: Soundwaves. The sounds produced by the guitar can produce soundwaves that cut and or blow someone/something back. Advanced techniques can harm the ears of those who listen or enchant them based on her god's intent and playing (Example-- putting someone or something into a trance-like state, making them easier to attack or implement suggestions. Can rally and draw in others.) The ability to cut or blast someone back with the sound waves depends on their strength which will have to grow in time, and the advanced techniques wouldn't work unless both are in tune with one another. It would also have a limited range which I'll default to what the mods decide if this ability is acceptable! And that would also have to develop with practice and time!

These were based on her canon...! I did two to showcase both sides of her since I didn't thread things out.
First Person:
[Okay, winding up locked in the storage closet isn't her most graceful of moments, especially when Yui doesn't even remember how she came to wake up here. Last she remembers there was a battle and Angel was before them, and OH GOD, OH GOD SOMEONE HELP HER ANGEL HAS HER DOESN'T SHE!??
Pounding on the closet door, pitiful cries echo on for a while, and even minutes later after no response, the girl inside is nowhere finished while one plea after another tumbles off her lips in succession.]
-- Not even a threat, I'll go to class! I'll tell you anything you want, even the location of senpai's hidden meal tickets!
[She gives up, just don't do anything too gruesome to her! She's still young and cute and even if she doesn't have a life to live anymore she'd rather continue existing without pain! Lack of pain is really good!! The disheartened moan is loud enough to be heard.]
T-This can't be happening, I'm only supposed to be a distraction! Angel, you don't want me! I'm small, skinny, heavily underfed! Look I'm trembling so bad I might wet myself! I'm going to wet myself, oh god please just let me goooooowaaahaa [ The obnoxious cry is as loud as ever as she jiggles the handle of the door frantically-- and suddenly it opens. A short, pink-haired girl tumbles ungracefully on her face as it does.]
Owww....
[What in the world? Pushing herself up, she rubs her nose. But wait--]
Oh hey, look! It's open. Must have turned the handle the wrong way.
[WELL, WHATEVER. Suddenly she's the picture of confidence. Puffing her chest she brags with a hand on her hip.]
THAT'S RIGHT I WON'T TELL YOU NOTHIN'. And next time you think you can keep me locked up better think again! Because the next time I judo kick something it'll be your face! YEAH! [Flicking her thumb across her nose, she knows she's so tough yeah, don't even mess with her. The tough act would maybe be a bit more impressive, if not for the mustache and beard clearly drawn in black marker on her face. So maybe that bit about Angel was just a dream.]
Well, that settles that. I wonder where everyone else is though...?
Third Person:
This little hill was never perturbed, and that was one of the reasons Yui liked it. She had a reputation for being loud and excitable. Personally, Yui couldn't blame others for taking notice of her, after all she was now the super cool lead singer for the crazy popular all-girl band GirlsDemo! Ready to rock whenever and drive their fans crazy with their super cool, up-tempo beats and badass attitudes-!
A faint smile lightened her expression as she stared at the setting sun, and allowed the air guitar to disappear as her arms flopped to her side.
Then again, sometimes it was nice to have a bit of downtime to think to herself, too. She closed her eyes and inhaled the fresh, summery scent of the air. Outside of finally having the opportunity to stand on stage and sing to a huge group of people, these kind of nights were better than those scary missions. Her real reason for coming out here this evening, though, was to try and work on some new lyrics.
Not easy when compared to her predecessor.
Iwasawa was amazing. Like a true inspiration, she touched everyone who listened to her music. Even when she was alive, Yui couldn't remember seeing anyone so cool and talented on television. The fact that she had to try and fill her shoes was daunting. There was no way she'd ever measure up to that kind of talent, but she was trying to give it her all.
I've already come this far, so I'm not going to let you down.
With a smirk her eyes lifted, and she stared at the horizon. She definitely wasn't going to let anyone down. Her hand balled up into a fist and she punched the air.
"Take that, God."
She'd keep right on existing and doing what she liked, in spite of the unfair life he gave her. In the meantime, he could just die.
One hand snaked out, and she snatched the pink and black journal beside her, before flipping over onto her stomach. Tearing the lid off a pen beside it with her mouth, she found the next blank page available to her. So what if she wasn't useful for missions against Angel. She'd help everyone and continue to defy God with her music.
